Hi, I’m Luis
I’m an EPM Architect during the day, automation (and AI) enthusiast during the night. Movie geek on weekends. This blog documents what I’m exploring — writing and investigating are how I learn. Posts are irregular, but they happen.
What I Do
EPM Systems — I’ve been working with finance systems since 2002. I could say I started with Oracle EPM when it was just acquired. :)
AI & Automation — Building tools that make daily life less painful: CLI utilities, automations, and intelligent document processing. I use a mix of personal assistant agents and coding agents — PI coding agent for infrastructure work and monitoring, plus OpenCode, OpenClaw, Hermes. Whatever fits the need. See github.com/LuisEduardoAvila for open-source projects.
Home Lab — Self-hosted infrastructure and local AI experiments. This is where I test ideas before they become tools. The objective is to be minimalist with infrastructure on demand. With that, pushing a Raspberry Pi to the extreme. :)
How the PotatoLab Started
I worked for years at a computer manufacturer/builder. I ended up acquiring the habit of buying the cheapest model (I also had my employee discount) — good or bad, a computer would end up surpassed within 2-3 years anyway. And I kept a bit of this habit.
A few years later I had a few potato computers that don’t get close to the processing power for things I usually work on. But with the goal to keep up-to-date and keep learning, I decided to change the potato systems around, add one or other solution in the middle, and create a home lab to allow me to keep using some of the infrastructure I had while creating full availability.
Yes, I still partially go with cheap solutions like a Raspberry Pi (though it’s not as cheap anymore nowadays). Now the challenge is to keep things scalable so things I create/use at home can somehow be replicated in enterprise environments.
This space is part blog, part lab notebook — a place to document what I’m learning and building.
